Fresh off its 13th edition in April 2026, Run Thru Reston is organized annually by the Reston Runners, a community club that also hosts regular runs and walks throughout Reston. The inclusion of both half-marathon and 5K options makes it a welcoming event for people of all abilities.
2. Friends of Reston Fall 5K
Starts and ends at Brown’s Chapel Park in Reston
This annual charity race doubles as a showcase for Reston Association’s services, taking runners through the scenic trails it maintains, while raising money for the nonprofit that supports many of its programs, from summer camp scholarships to popular free movie days for seniors.
3. Reston Triathlon
Starts at Lake Newport Pool, Ridge Heights Pool or Lake Audubon in Reston
The Reston Triathlon has been challenging locals to swim, bike and run through Reston since 1984, making it one of the oldest community triathlon events in the D.C. region. Threatened with discontinuation in 2022 by the volunteer-led association that had led it for decades, the tradition has resumed and expanded under the nonprofit CORE Foundation, which now plans sprint and youth events in addition to the main Reston Olympic Triathlon.
