Fairfax County police are investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred at a Richmond Highway bus stop earlier this afternoon (Tuesday).

Officers and medics responded to Richmond Highway at North Kings Highway in Groveton shortly before 2 p.m. for the reported stabbing, according to scanner traffic.

“There was a male who appears to be stabbed. He’s in the middle of the road, bleeding from the chest,” the dispatcher said at 1:56 p.m.

The stabbing occurred at a bus stop in front of the Wells Fargo bank at 6300 Richmond Highway, police say.

“We’ve got people stopped, blocking the road,” a responding officer said on the scanner. “He doesn’t look to be responsive.”

The adult man was taken to a hospital in life-threatening condition. He ultimately died from his injuries, Fairfax County Police Department Capt. Jesse Katzman announced in an update at 5 p.m.

According to Katzman, police are still working to identify and locate two people who were involved in the stabbing.

“Preliminarily, it appears that, based on the statements our detectives have gathered, the victim and suspects were known to each other, and this is an isolated incident here in the community,” Katzman said.

Southbound Richmond Highway remains closed at North Kings Highway, as detectives continue to gather evidence at the scene.

“Please use an alternate route,” the FCPD said.
