15 CANDIDATES QUALIFY FOR 5 SEATS IN UPCOMING McLEAN COMMUNITY CENTER GOVERNING BOARD ELECTION: Five adult and 10 teen residents of Dranesville District 1A have been certified to run for seats on the McLean Community Center (MCC) Governing Board, center officials announced March 13.
The all-volunteer Governing Board sets goals and aligns strategies for the community center’s programs and facilities, including the Alden Theatre and Old Firehouse Center.
Residents of Dranesville Small District 1A are eligible to vote during the election. Voting for Governing Board members will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, at the McLean Day 2023 festival at Lewinsville Park. Residents also may vote during absentee voting from March 15 through May 17.
Three adult positions and two youth positions are open this year. Adult candidates who receive the three highest vote counts will serve three-year terms. Youth candidates – one each from the McLean and Langley high school boundary areas – will serve one-year terms. Youth candidates need not attend those schools to serve on the board.
This year’s candidates for adult seats on the board include Gloria Marrero Chambers, Matt Colsia, Katie Gorka, Kathleen Cooney Porter and Lincom (aka Amirthalingam Thillaichidambaram).
Youth candidates for the Langley High School boundary area are Sophia Bruno, Cabot Fisher, Charlotte Loving, Duy Nguyen, Ethan Pwu and Sonya Thott.
Youth candidates seeking to represent the McLean High School boundary area are Eleanor Ague, Rafik Hanna, Katy Perez-Nesmith and Philip Rotondo.
Write-in candidates will be allowed in the election, but must receive at least 10 votes in order to have their votes counted.
