Fairfax County supervisors on May 9 were slated to approve installation of two “Watch for Children” signs on Linway Terrace in McLean.
The county’s Residential Traffic Administration Program allows for installation of such signs at the primary entrance of residential neighborhoods or at places where there are high concentrations of children relative to the area, such as playgrounds, daycare centers and community centers.
The Fairfax County Department of Transportation reviews such requests to make sure the proposed sign(s) will be located effectively and not conflict with other traffic-control devices. Department officials in March received verification from the Dranesville District supervisor’s office that the surrounding community supported installation of the signs on Linway Terrace. The project will be financed using $500 from the county’s Traffic Calming Program.
