Oakcrest School officials announced July 27 that they had named Christie Keuchel as the school’s interim head.
Keuchel, who is the seventh person to lead Oakcrest, from 2007 to 2020 served the school in a variety of roles, including associate head of school for students, director of student life, Middle and Upper School director, and theology teacher.
“I am particularly enthused about returning to Oakcrest to be able to share and grow with our faculty in the art of teaching and learning,” Keuchel said in a statement released by the school. “I look forward to imparting the Oakcrest mission, working with parents, faculty and mentors to develop the intellectual, character, faith and leadership potential of Oakcrest students.”
Keuchel earned a bachelor’s degree in English and secondary education from Suffolk University in Boston and a master’s in educational administration from St. John Fisher University in Rochester, N.Y. She also holds a teacher certification in New York state.
Keuchel said she looked forward to welcoming new and returning students this fall, including seniors in the Class of 2024, as well as helping them grow intellectually and furthering Oakcrest’s mission.
“The opening days of school provide an important opportunity for introductions along with meaningful conversations and connections with our parents, faculty, staff and students,” she said.
Michele Bueno, president of Oakcrest’s board of directors, said school leaders are confident about the depth of Keuchel’s experience and her steady hand.
“She understands that the goal of an Oakcrest education is to assist parents in developing their daughters’ faith and leadership potential,” Bueno said. “She will work to strengthen our rich academic program while ensuring both continuity and a fresh approach to the implementation of Oakcrest’s mission and core principles.”
