The Fairfax County Park Authority will dive into Memorial Day weekend with the opening of three seasonal water amenities, including The Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole in Reston.

The popular water park inside Lake Fairfax Park (1400 Lake Fairfax Drive) will open for the summer at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday). Initially, the facility will only be open on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, but operations will expand to include weekdays starting on June 18.

Hours run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the season.

“This family water park captures the excitement of the Old West’s Gold Rush with attractions tailored for all ages,” the park authority said in a press release.

The Water Mine tickets can be purchased in-person or online the day of entry and cost $13.75 for people under 4 feet tall, $16.75 for people over 4 feet tall on weekdays, and $17.75 for taller people on weekends and holidays. Admission is free for kids 2 and younger.

Season passes are also available at discounted rates through Monday, May 27.

Hiring for the park’s 2024 season is still underway. The park authority says all cashier positions have been filled, but lifeguards and park attendants are needed.

Tomorrow will also bring the openings of Our Special Harbor Spray Park in the family recreation area of Franconia Park (6601 Telegraph Road) and the swimming pool at Martin Luther King Jr. Park (8115 Fordson Road) in Hybla Valley.

The spray park, which features a Chesapeake Bay-themed sprayground and a quieter beach area with bubblers and water tables, will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays through June 14. On June 15 through Aug. 18, it will be available daily, with hours varying depending on the day.

Our Special Harbor will return to weekend and holiday-only operations on Aug. 19, when Fairfax County Public Schools students resume classes. The season will end after Labor Day on Sept. 2.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Park pool features two water slides and a kids’ wading pool. It will be open from noon to 7 p.m. based on the following schedule, per the park’s website:

  • May 25-27: Memorial Day/Opening Weekend
  • June 1-9: Open weekends only
  • June 15-Aug. 18: Open daily (except Tuesdays)
  • Aug. 24-Sept. 2: Open weekends only
  • Sept. 2: Labor Day/Last Day of the Season

Admission to the pool is free for all individuals. The park authority requires kids younger than 10 to be directly supervised at all times by a guardian who’s at least 16 years old.
