One of the D.C. area’s favorite pizza spots is now officially open in Fairfax City.

Located at 10408 Fairfax Blvd in the 50 Point Shopping Center, the New York-style pizza chain Andy’s celebrated the grand opening of its newest Northern Virginia store last Friday (May 31), marking another step in its regional expansion.

“We were really excited to get into Fairfax City,” owner Andy Brown told FFXnow.

Brown, a Maryland native, launched the first Andy’s at Tysons Galleria in 2018 as a spin-off of a frozen pizza company, Eat Pizza, that he started in D.C.

Andy’s Pizza also now operates a store in Old Town Alexandria, five locations in D.C. and one in Rockville, Maryland.

Taking the place of Slice of Matchbox, an offshoot of Matchbox Pizza conceived during the pandemic that closed last year, Andy’s Fairfax City location will have increased seating and parking — features that are hard to come by in D.C, according to Brown.

“It’s really hard for our D.C. stores to be able to come in and pick up pizza, and finding a place with a parking lot was a big one for us,” he said.

Open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., the restaurant serves whole, 18-inch pizzas and slices, along with salads, wings and other starters. Pie flavors range from its award-winning cheese to a house special pepperoni, burrata margherita, and a plant-based option called Miller Time with vegan vertage cheese and basil.

Fairfax City Economic Development President and CEO Christopher Bruno said the new addition to the city’s culinary scene “illustrates the strength of our community and the appeal of our shopping centers.”

“FCED is especially pleased to support Andy’s decision to locate in Fairfax City with aid from the Facade & Interior Improvement Grant (FIIG) program, and we wish them much success as they engage with our residents and fellow businesses,” Bruno told FFXnow via email.

Although the Fairfax shop just opened, Brown plans to continue expanding in Northern Virginia, with FFXnow’s sister site, ARLnow, reporting that an Arlington location is in the works.

“Our goal is to be your favorite neighborhood pizza shop, and if you have to drive 45 minutes, it’s not your favorite neighborhood pizza shop,” Brown said. “So, we want to be within a short driving distance of communities that we really like to be a part of, so [we’re] certainly looking more in Virginia as well.”
