A technology company assembled by Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s former employer has extended its reach to the Herndon area.
Two Six Technologies held a ribbon-cutting ceremony last Wednesday (May 29) to celebrate the opening of its new office at 13865 Sunrise Valley Drive in Coppermine Commons, a three-building campus in the McNair neighborhood just east of Dulles International Airport.
Headquartered in Arlington, the company’s Herndon location currently consists of more than 27,000 square feet of offices, labs and “specialized equipment that was custom designed for Two Six’s teams,” according to a press release. It will particularly focus on customers in Northern Virginia’s intelligence community.
“I’m delighted to celebrate the opening of our new facility at Coppermine Commons in Herndon,” Two Six CEO Joe Logue said in the release. “Thanks to the great work by our internal team and excellent partners, this unique facility confirms both our dedication to supporting the missions of our [intelligence community] customers and our investment in the talented people of Two Six.”
Two Six was formed in February 2021 by the D.C-based investment firm The Carlyle Group, which created the startup after acquiring the contractors IST Research and Two Six Labs. Based in Fredericksburg, IST Research provided open-source data collection services, while Ballston’s Two Six Labs researched and developed security technology.
The merged company now employs over 800 people and operates 25 facilities in eight different states. It offers cybersecurity, analytics, research and development, and other technical services to the federal government, including the defense and state departments, the intelligence community, and civilian agencies.
Two Six says it’s already planning to expand its Herndon footprint by building out another 28,000 square feet of office and lab space at Coppermine Commons “later this year.”
Bounded by Coppermine Road and Sunrise Valley Drive, the 608,000-square-foot Coppermine Commons office park completed a $10 million renovation in 2019 that added amenities like a new lobby, cafe, fitness center and gaming area.
