Lewinsville Park will soon come alive with the sound of music, as The Alden kicks off its Summer Sunday Concerts in the Park this Sunday (June 16).

Typically held at McLean Central Park, the annual free concert series has moved south to the park at 1659 Chain Bridge Road this year to accommodate ongoing construction at its usual location, according to the McLean Community Center, which operates The Alden.

The Fairfax County Park Authority’s contractor began work on a new playground, pavilion and walkways for McLean Central Park (1468 Dolley Madison Blvd) in March, a project expected to wrap up by the end of 2024. The park’s basketball courts also got a renovation this spring.

The Alden’s Summer Sunday Concerts series will open this Sunday at 4 p.m. with three kids’ musicians from the D.C. region — Uncle Devin, Ms. Niki and Groovy Nate — teaming up to form the DMV Fam-Jam Allstars.

Attendees who plan on driving will be allowed to park in neighborhood streets and at McLean High School (1633 Davidson Road) in addition to using the Lewinsville Park lot, according to MCC.

“Get ready for cozy little concerts for the whole family, with June’s concerts programmed especially for young children,” MCC said in a press release. “Audience members should bring their own chairs, sunscreen and food and beverages as desired.”

Spanning genres from East Asian folk music to jazz and power pop, all of the concerts will take place at 4 p.m. on Sundays. The announced schedule for the rest of the series is below.
