The Out & About Festival is returning to Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts this month with a new lineup of LGBTQ musicians.

Landing in the middle of Pride Month, the day-long festival will bring performances to all three of the park’s outdoor stages from 10:30 a.m. to 9:35 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, along with food trucks, games and vendor booths.

As previously announced, this year’s festival will be headlined by Grammy winner and former Alabama Shakes lead singer Brittany Howard, who will take the Filene Center stage at 9:35 p.m. She follows in the footsteps of folk-rock singer Brandi Carlile, who served as the headliner for last year’s inaugural, two-day Out & About Festival.

Other performers scheduled for this year include indie singer-songwriter Jenny Lewis, the soul-pop band Lawrence, Sonic Youth vocalist and guitarist Kim Gordon, the folk-pop trio Tiny Habits, singer-songwriter Quinn Christopherson, Afro-Cuban duo Okan, and the D.C.-based, all-female percussion band Batalá Washington.

The festival will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the folk-pop group Laura Doherty & The Heartbreakers performing on the Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods stage (1551 Trap Road) in an event that requires separate tickets.

Doors will then open for the main festival at 2:30 p.m., with D.C. pop singer Be Steadwell kicking off the afternoon performances at 3 p.m. on the Meadow stage.

Les The DJ from Showtime Bar’s D.C. Dyke Nights will deliver music between sets, and WAMU Morning Edition host Esther Ciammachilli has been enlisted as an emcee.

Here’s the full performance schedule announced by the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts:

  • 10:30 a.m. — Laura Doherty & The Heartbreakers (Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods)
  • 3 p.m. — Be Steadwell (Meadow stage)
  • 3:30 p.m. — Quinn Christopherson (Theatre-in-the-Woods)
  • 4 p.m. — Okan (Meadow)
  • 4:40 p.m. — Tiny Habits (Theatre-in-the-Woods)
  • 5:20 p.m. — Lawrence (Meadow)
  • 6:50 p.m. — Kim Gordon (Filene Center stage)
  • 7:55 p.m. — Jenny Lewis (Filene Center)
  • 9:35 p.m. — Brittany Howard (Filene Center)

In addition to music, the festival will feature games and activities sponsored by DC Fray, and food and drinks will be available from The Fermented Pig, local breweries like sponsor Starr Hill Brewery and Caboose Brewing, and the trucks Captain Cookie & the Milk Man, Big Cheese and Rito Loco.

Several LGBTQ advocacy organizations will be present, including SMYAL (Supporting and Mentoring Youth Advocates and Leaders), Equality Virginia, PFLAG and Trans Pride D.C. There will also be booths for the National Park Service, the League of Women Voters, Minority Veterans of America, Merrifield Garden Center, and D.C.’s National Women’s Soccer League team, the Washington Spirit.

Festival tickets start at $49 and cover all performances except for Laura Doherty & The Heartbreakers, whose tickets are sold separately for $12 but are free for kids under 2.
