The shelves at the Tysons ABC store are a little emptier today after an apparent shoplifting incident last night (Wednesday).
Officers were called to the liquor store at 8413 Old Courthouse Road at 7:58 p.m. for a report of a larceny, the Fairfax County Police Department says.
“It was reported that 3 suspects went into the store and took several bottles of alcohol before leaving the store,” the FCPD said by email, adding that no one was injured and the individuals were no longer present when officers arrived.
The police conducted a search of the area but didn’t find the alleged suspects. There’s no indication that they were armed, police say.
“Detectives continue to investigate,” the FCPD said.
The Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) opened its store on Old Courthouse Road in 2015 after closing a different store in Tysons at 8338 Leesburg Pike.
“Our shelves are stocked with an enhanced selection of unique and hard-to-find products among our large variety of spirits,” the ABC says on its website for the Old Courthouse Road store.” Our staff is happy to make a gift suggestion or offer a cocktail recipe recommendation.”
Another store had opened in the office building at 8150 Leesburg Pike in 2014, but that one permanently closed on Sunday, June 16, after seeing “declining sales in recent years,” an ABC spokesperson says.
“The location was quite small, at around 1,300 sq. ft., which made offering a variety of products for our customers challenging,” the spokesperson told FFXnow by email. “The Virginia ABC Board voted in January 2024 to close this location at the end of the lease term.”
That store had previously closed in April 2020 as part of a temporary consolidation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it reopened that May.
The closest other ABC locations are now in Vienna (419-B Maple Avenue East) and Idylwood (7121 Leesburg Pike). The ABC’s recent additions in Northern Virginia include a store in Great Falls that launched in April 2023 and one in Old Town Alexandria that opened in late May.
