A motorcyclist has died following a crash involving two SUVs on Route 28 near Dulles International Airport, police say.
Police and Fairfax County Fire and Rescue units were dispatched to northbound Route 28 (Sully Road) at McLearen Lane in Chantilly at 1:55 p.m. for the crash, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
The biker — later identified as 23-year-old Herndon resident David Arias Sandoval — was declared dead at the scene. One other person was transported to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, police told FFXnow.
As of 2:35 p.m., officers were at the scene, and Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives were en route. Northbound Route 28 was closed at the Air and Space Museum Parkway for the investigation, reopening around 6:30 p.m.
“Please use an alternate route,” the FCPD said in a tweet that described the other vehicle involved as a truck.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police now say Sandoval crashed into a Nissan Rouge, an SUV, that he was attempting to pass while heading north on Route 28. He was allegedly traveling on a 2021 Kawasaki motorcycle “at a high rate of speed.”
A Volkswagen Taos, also an SUV, then got pulled into the fray.
“The motorcyclist struck the Nissan, causing debris from the impact to hit the Volkswagen,” the FCPD said in a press release published Friday (June 28). “The driver of the Nissan was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
An investigation into the crash is still underway, with detectives trying to determine “whether alcohol was a factor,” the release says.
