Fairfax County police arrested a Centreville man over the weekend who is suspected of soliciting sex from an 11-year-old child.

The arrest became complicated when the man allegedly refused to leave his home, and officers learned that he may be armed, the Fairfax County Police Department said in a news release on Saturday (July 13).

According to the FCPD, SWAT team officers went to the 13800 block of Fount Beattie Court in Centreville’s Singleton’s Grove neighborhood at 9:55 p.m. on Friday (July 12) to serve search and arrest warrants to 35-year-old Cody Christopher Flynn.

“Detectives from our Child Exploitation Unit had received information that the suspect had been soliciting sexual acts from an eleven-year-old child,” the FCPD said.

When the officers arrived, however, Flynn refused to exit and listen to directions, the police say. Officers also “obtained information that Flynn may have been armed,” leading them to call the department’s Special Operations Division, Crisis Negotiations Team, and Crisis Response Team for assistance.

Officers were ultimately able to take Flynn into custody around 2 a.m. on Saturday, concluding a barricade situation that lasted about four hours, the FCPD says.

“Flynn complained of medical issues and was taken to a local hospital where he was released shortly after,” police said.

Now in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, Flynn has been charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated sexual battery, production of child pornography, and two counts of soliciting a minor.

Firearms were found in the home, but it turned out that Flynn wasn’t armed during the barricade, the FCPD told FFXnow.

“There was no one else inside the home,” the FCPD said.
