Shake Shack is expanding north of the Dulles Toll Road for the first time in Northern Virginia.
The burger-and-shake chain signed a lease yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon for space in Reston Town Center, a Shake Shack spokesperson confirmed to FFXnow. The new restaurant is slated to open in 2025.
Since the lease was just signed, the spokesperson said they’re unable to confirm further details for now, but a food establishment application submitted to Fairfax County last Thursday (July 18) calls for a 59-seat restaurant at 11922 Democracy Drive. The permit was first reported by the Washington Business Journal.
The address suggests the restaurant will replace The Counter, which opened at Reston Town Center in July 2009, per its Yelp page. The custom burger eatery’s parent company, Kahala Brands, didn’t respond to a request for comment by press time.
Shake Shack can currently be found in Tysons, Merrifield and at the Smithsonian’s Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly.
A site plan from CBRE, the town center’s retail broker, still shows The Counter in that spot. However, the plan does confirm reports by The Burn that the clothing retailer Evereve and a restaurant called Corsica are coming to Reston Town Center.
Formerly occupied by Madewell, the 2,785-square-foot space at 11928 Market Street will be the first Virginia store for Evereve, a women’s fashion boutique started by Megan Tamte in Edina, Minnesota, in 2004.
The company now has over 100 stores across the U.S., though the closest one to the D.C. area is in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.
Per the site plan, Corsica will move into the 7,201-square-foot space at 11950 Democracy Drive that the French bistro Mon Ami Gabi vacated at the end of 2023. The incoming restaurant might be an offshoot of Barcelona Wine Bar, according to The Burn.
Barcelona already has a Reston Town Center location at 12023 Town Square Street. The business team introduced their first Corsica in Denver, Colorado, this April, focusing on the French, Italian and Spanish influences that can shaped the island of Corsica’s cuisine.
Corsica’s menu “features various small plates of vegetables and meats cooked over an open-flame robata grill, baked pastas, classic apéro, and aperitivi snacks,” the Denver restaurant’s website says. It also serves over 200 wines.
A public relations representative for Barcelona Wine Bar confirmed they assisted with Corsica’s opening in Denver but had no information about a possible Reston location.
“We don’t have any information about further openings at this time,” they told FFXnow.
Upcoming Reston Town Center tenants that have been confirmed include Kusshi Sushi, which is expected to open in November, and Ice Cream Jubilee, which once hoped to open this past April.
As of July 11, the ice cream parlor said on Instagram that the opening could be “any day now,” but it’s still working through the final stages of the permitting process.
