The dog days of August will bring free movie screenings to the Sully Historic Site (3650 Historic Sully Way) in Chantilly.
The outdoor Starlight Cinema events are a part of the “Summer Entertainment Series” organized annually by the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA). The authority is also hosting Arts in the Parks, Evenings on the Ellipse, Franconia District Nights and other programs at various parks around the county.
The Starlight Cinema screenings will occur every Saturday in August. Gates open at 6 p.m., and a pre-movie performance — including music, magic, comedy and puppetry — starts at 7 p.m. The feature film will begin at dark and can be watched from the lawn or in your car.
In recent years, Starlight Cinema was held at Trinity Centre in Centreville, but it has moved locations for the 2024 installment.
“This year, we had the opportunity to move the Starlight Cinema series to a new location within the park system,” FCPA spokesperson Benjamin Boxer said when asked about the location change. “The Sully Historic Site has a beautiful location and we’re excited to welcome back our past audiences while bringing this family entertainment opportunity to new audiences.”
This year’s performances and movies will include:
- Aug. 3: The Uncle Devin Show and “Migration”
- Aug. 10: The Great Zucchini and “Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie”
- Aug. 17: Mr. Gabe and Friends and “Wish”
- Aug. 24: Geoff Marsh and “Elemental”
Movies are subject to cancellation in case of inclement weather. FCPA recommends calling 703-324-SHOW (7469) around 6 p.m. to check for rain cancellations.
