A 77-year-old Fair Oaks man has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly stabbing and killing his wife at their home in the Highland Oaks neighborhood.

Officers were called to the 3900 block of Highland Oaks Drive in Fair Oaks for a report of a stabbing at 6:18 p.m. on Monday (July 29), according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

“Officers located Karen Dorbayan, 77, of Fair Oaks suffering from trauma to the upper body,” the FCPD said in a press release. “She was taken to the hospital in life threatening condition and was pronounced deceased.”

After detectives determined that Behruze Dorbayan had stabbed Karen Dorbayan, he was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with second-degree murder, the FCPD announced yesterday (Tuesday).

The circumstances around the fatal stabbing remain under investigation. Behruze Dorbayan remains in custody after an arraignment yesterday in Fairfax County General District Court.

Because Behruze and Karen Dorbayan were married, the case was transferred to the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, which has scheduled a preliminary hearing for 2 p.m. on Nov. 19, according to the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
