A federal contractor owned by the largest Native American tribe in the U.S. has expanded its presence in the country’s capital region by adding a Tysons office.
Cherokee Federal announced Friday (Aug. 9) that it has opened an area office at 8180 Greensboro Drive, Suite 900, in Greensboro Park. The 20,000-square-foot space will host over 100 employees and complement the company’s regional office in Arlington.
“This strategic expansion in D.C. provides a centralized and sophisticated environment that reflects the quality of service we are known for providing to our federal partners,” Cherokee Federal President Steven Bilby said in a press release. “This is another exciting step forward for our organization, and we are eager to continue growing our talented workforce, suite of robust service offerings and overall presence in our nation’s capital.”
As the federal contracting division of Cherokee Nation Businesses (CNB), a tribally owned holding company, Cherokee Federal encompasses over three dozen contractors and more than 5,000 workers who provide national security, health, information technology, engineering, humanitarian relief and other services.
According to its website, CNB began in 1969 with a single manufacturing plant in Stilwell, Oklahoma, with the goal of providing jobs to Cherokee Nation citizens and using the profits to support their community. The company later expanded into other sectors, including the casino gaming, hospitality and entertainment industries, and outside Cherokee Nation’s reservation with the 2009 acquisition of the software company ITX.
The federal contracting division rebranded as Cherokee Federal in 2020 and now ranks among the federal government’s top contractors, receiving nearly $549.5 million in procurements for fiscal year 2023.
According to CNB, all of its profits are invested back into Cherokee Nation-owned businesses and programs that serve the tribe’s more than 450,000 citizens, including housing, healthcare, education and infrastructure improvements.
Cherokee Federal’s Tysons office features a wellness room and meeting spaces. It was designed to be “a modern, open and tech-forward space that encourages collaboration, innovation and customer engagement,” the press release says.
“I am proud of this new environment and am immensely grateful for our dedicated workforce and the value we are driving for our federal partners around the globe,” Bilby said.
