The Fairfax County Animal Shelter (FCAS) will waive adoption fees this Friday through Sunday (Aug. 23-25).

The shelter has more than 160 animals waiting for adoption, it said in a press release. That includes cats, dogs, guinea pigs, mice and rabbits.

Organized by NBC and Telemundo Stations, the first “Clear the Shelters” campaign debuted across the nation in 2015 and has successfully helped over 1 million pets get adopted into new homes. Nationally, the event has been running from Aug. 10 and will last until Sept. 10. More than 500 shelters and humane societies are participating.

“We are thrilled to join in this annual celebration of finding loving homes for adoptable pets,” FCAS Director Reasa Currier said. “This event is a wonderful opportunity for families to find their perfect match. Whether you’re looking for a playful kitten or a gentle senior pet, it’s all about giving these amazing animals a chance to become cherished members of a family.”

Fees will be waived at both the Michael R. Frey Campus (4500 West Ox Road) and Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road). The shelters will operate from noon to 7 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
