A Sterling man is facing a criminal charge in connection to a recent fatal pedestrian crash in Great Falls.
Guanglu Xia, 63, has been charged with a felony hit-and-run after he allegedly struck Giomarie Davila-Ocasio, a 26-year-old woman from Reston, and initially left the scene, the Fairfax County Police Department announced today (Friday).
Detectives have determined that Xia was driving west on Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) near Downey Drive early in the morning of July 20 “when he struck a woman walking in the roadway,” police say.
“Xia left the scene after the crash but returned a short time later,” the FCPD said.
Xia was charged yesterday (Thursday) and is now in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on no bond after an arraignment this morning. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 2 p.m. on Dec. 18, according to Fairfax County General District Court records.
The FCPD previously reported that alcohol was believed to have been “a factor in the crash” for Davila-Ocasio, who died at the scene.
A 2016 graduate of T.C. Williams High School, now known as Alexandria City High School, Davila-Ocasio was described as a “beautiful young lady, hard worker and with great dreams” by the organizer of a fundraiser set up to help her parents manage the burial costs.
The GoFundMe raised $23,404, exceeding its $20,000 goal.
