Reggae on the Lake, an annual event in Reston that celebrates reggae music and culture, will be back for its third year this weekend.
Hosted by Reston Community Center and the Lake Anne of Reston Condominium Unit Owners Association (LARCA), the festival will take place from noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Lake Anne Plaza (1609 Washington Plaza).
The event was founded by Ramon Pardo, a realtor and owner of the Reston-based real estate agency Terra Properties. Terra Gives Back — the nonprofit arm of Terra Properties — organizes the festival for the Reston community.
After hiring Culture, a reggae band, for his wedding in Jamaica, Pardo decided to bring the music and culture to Lake Anne, where he’s resided for more than 25 years.
“We hope to bring more life to the Plaza that we love living in and to the diverse Reston community as a whole, which we are privileged to serve,” the festival’s website states.
The event is free, though ticket reservations are encouraged to help organizers track attendance. Several international reggae artists will be featured, including:
- 1 p.m.: Eclipse International
- 2:15 p.m.: Sustane
- 3:30 p.m.: Regg’Go Band
- 4:45 p.m.: Jigdy King
- 6 p.m.: Proverbs Reggae Band
- 7:15 p.m.: Israel Vibrations & The Roots Radics, the headliner
Traditional Jamaican cuisine will also be available, along with kid-friendly activities, art and a raffle for an all-expenses-paid vacation for two adults to Azul Beach Resort in Negril, Jamaica.
The raffle tickets cost $50, and all proceeds will benefit Cornerstones, the local safety-net nonprofit that operates the Embry Rucker Community Shelter.
