A woman was killed in a crash that occurred outside Oakton Shopping Center Saturday morning (Sept. 21).
Choon Kook, 80, from Vienna was hit by the driver of a Ford F-150 while walking at the intersection of Hunter Mill Road and Lynnhaven Place. She was transported to a hospital with injuries considered life-threatening, the Fairfax County Police Department reported in a tweet at 10:32 a.m.
In an update on Sunday (Sept. 22), the department announced that Kook had died from her injuries. The crash remains under investigation, though police don’t believe speed or alcohol were factors.
The driver remained at the scene, according to police. A preliminary investigation found that they were attempting to turn into the shopping center from Hunter Mill Road when they struck Kook.
One northbound lane of Hunter Mill was closed while Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives investigated, prompting the FCPD to advise drivers to “please seek an alternate route.”
