The FBI on Tuesday raided the Reston office of Carahsoft, an IT services and software government contractor with about 2,000 employees.
The FBI confirmed “court-authorized law enforcement activity on Sunset Hills Road this morning.” The bureau declined further comment.
Correspondence obtained by InsideNoVa from people familiar with the situation stated authorities from the FBI and Virginia State Police descended on the office Tuesday morning, searched employees’ electronic devices, questioned certain workers and sent them home.
“Currently, we are fully cooperating on this matter and operating business as usual,” a company representative told InsideNoVa via the company website’s chat system. “Any additional information or comments will be made later [or] when appropriate.”
This is not Carahsoft’s first run-in with federal authorities. In 2015, Carahsoft and contractor VMare Inc. agreed to pay $75.5 million to “resolve allegations they violated the False Claims Act by misrepresenting commercial pricing practices and overcharging the government on VMware software products and related services,” according to a Department of Justice news release.
