A Reston man has been arrested after allegedly stealing lottery tickets from several convenience stores around Fairfax County.
Detectives with the Fairfax County Police Department began investigating after officers were called to the 7-Eleven (2793 Chain Bridge Road) in Oakton for a report of a larceny and assault around 3:57 a.m. on Sept. 15, according to the police scanner.
In a news release published today (Tuesday), the FCPD says the 39-year-old man went behind the store’s counter and stole several tickets while the clerk was distracted. When the clerk returned, the man reportedly assaulted him before escaping. The clerk suffered injuries that are not life-threatening.
After investigating, detectives linked the suspect to several other cases and more than $6,500 of stolen lottery tickets last month. The incidents occurred from Sept. 11 through Sept. 25.
