Herndon police are searching for a man who’s believed to be armed and dangerous after allegedly shooting another man at the Worldgate Shopping Center in Herndon.

Herndon Police responded to the shopping center’s parking lot around 7:40 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 6) after an officer heard what he thought was gunshots while on patrol, a spokesperson says.

“He turned around and saw a vehicle leaving the scene at a high rate of speed,” Herndon Police spokesperson Lisa Herndon told FFXnow.

The pursuit went onto the Dulles Toll Road with the suspected shooter reportedly traveling east at over 100 mph. Police ultimately decided to terminate the pursuit after losing track of the driver, according to Herndon.

With 911 calls flooding in, additional officers were dispatched to the Worldgate and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries that police described as life-threatening.

The shopping center’s parking lot was closed for the investigation, Herndon says.

The Herndon Police Department announced Monday (Oct. 7) that 25-year-old Mohamed Abdalla is wanted in connection to the shooting, advising anyone with information to call 911. Abdalla and the victim know each other, so the shooting isn’t believed to be random, according to Herndon.

“Do not approach,” the HPD said. “This subject should be considered armed and dangerous.”

The man who was shot is now in stable condition after undergoing surgery, as of 8:19 a.m., police said.
