A new charge has been filed in connection to a teacher’s reported assaults of students at a Burke elementary school.
Dana Chen, an assistant principal at White Oaks Elementary School (6130 Shiplett Blvd), has been charged with failing to report assault allegations against special education teacher Elizabeth Yoshimi Nagagata, the Fairfax County Police Department announced yesterday (Wednesday).
Nagagata, a 62-year-old Fairfax resident, was arrested in June after detectives determined that she had allegedly assaulted students on three different occasions between September 2023 and April 2024, according to the FCPD.
The investigation into the special education teacher was initiated after Child Protective Services got a report on April 12 that a teacher was seen assaulting a student at school. Police now say that Chen, 42, of Fairfax received complaints that Nagagata had assaulted multiple students but didn’t report them.
“Chen failed to report these allegations to FCPD or Child Protective Services, as required by law,” the FCPD said.
Chen was released from custody after being served a summons that charged her with one count of failing to report.
Nagagata was charged with seven counts of simple assault on June 21. At that time, she was held in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.
