
Two people have been taken to a hospital following a crash involving three vehicles on Fairfax County Parkway in Burke.
The parkway’s southbound lanes are closed at Lee Chapel Road, while the northbound lanes are closed at Huntsman Blvd in the wake of the crash, the Fairfax County Police Department announced at 9:16 a.m.
Police officers and Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department personnel were dispatched northbound Fairfax County Parkway at Reservation Drive around 8:25 a.m. for a crash possibly involving a trapped occupant, according to scanner traffic.
Fire responders confirmed around 8:30 a.m. that the crash involved an orange car found on its side in the roadway with one trapped occupant, along with a black vehicle that went “off into the trees,” also with just one occupant. Both individuals were reported to be conscious.
“First vehicle has actually caught on fire,” a responder said at 8:33 a.m. “We’re extinguishing that right now.”
The fire was extinguished, and both drivers were extricated and transported to an area hospital by 8:50 a.m., a fire responder confirmed.
The FCPD is advising drivers to avoid the area as the scene is cleaned up. The roadway fully reopened around 11:40 a.m., according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
