A Maryland man was arrested over the weekend after allegedly soliciting sex from a 15-year-old he met at the Spring Hill Metro station in Tysons.
The teen’s parents reported to the police on Friday (Nov. 1) that a man had solicited their child first in person and then in subsequent communications in October, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
An investigation by detectives found that Logan Russell Farrell, 38, had allegedly approached the teen at the Metro station and offered money for sexual acts, the FCPD said in a press release.
“Farrell at the time of the encounter was a stranger to the victim,” police said. “Afterwards, Farrell continued communicating with the victim soliciting sexual acts and illicit pictures.”
Farrell was arrested on Saturday (Nov. 2) and charged with trafficking a minor, production of child pornography, and four counts of soliciting a minor. He’s now in custody without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
According to the FCPD, detectives believe Farrell regularly visited the Spring Hill Metro station and are encouraging anyone with additional information about him to contact the Cyber and Forensics Division at 703-246-7800, option 7.
The department also accepts anonymous tips through Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS and online.
In its press release, the FCPD stresses the need for parents to be aware of what their children are doing online:
Parents are urged to closely monitor their children’s online activities and use available security settings to prevent the use of inappropriate sites or platforms. Children should be encouraged to report any person engaging in inappropriate conversations or trying to coerce them into providing sexually explicit images of themselves. Additional internet safety information provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children can be found HERE. There are many applications predators use to solicit victims. Parents are encouraged to know what applications their children are using and have open dialog of the dangers they may pose.
