Three Potomac School boys soccer players chosen to all-state teams

Three boys soccer players who helped the Potomac School Panthers win conference championships this fall were rewarded with all-state private-school selections.

Senior forward, top scorer and three-year captain Patrick Ritter was one of a dozen players chosen Division I first-team all-state. Making second team from the high-school squad were seniors Colin Cordell and Marshall Lloyd.

Ritter scored 11 goals and had eight assists. He will play at Bowdoin College. Lloyd had six goals and four assists and will play at Howard University. Cordell had four goals and two assists.

Potomac School (12-2-5) won the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships this fall, not losing to a conference opponent. The Panthers next were the fourth seed in the Division I state tournament and finished 1-1 after a first-round bye. Potomac School nipped fifth-seed St. Christopher’s, 2-1, in the quarterfinals, then lost to top seed Cape Henry Collegiate, 1-0, in the semifinals.

Episcopal won the Division I state title. Potomac School tied Episcopal, 2-2, and Cape Henry, 1-1, during regular-season matches.

For the season, Potomac School scored 44 goals and allowed 14.

Also chosen to the all-MAC team from Potomac School were sophomores Luke Swigart (seven goals, four assists) and defenders Charlie Cillizza and Lawson Watt.
