A 17-year-old boy from Alexandria has been arrested after allegedly shooting another teen in Herndon’s Cavalier Park neighborhood last night (Monday).

The Herndon Police Department received multiple 911 calls around 8:33 p.m. yesterday for shots fired in the 1000 block of Cavalier Drive. While investigating, officers got a call from a hospital that said a teen had come in with “multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body,” according to a news release.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police say the 16-year-old male victim was shot multiple times after getting into “an altercation” with the Alexandria teen.

“The victim was shot multiple times before running to his house,” the HPD said. “A family member then took him to the hospital. The victim remains hospitalized in stable condition.”

Police identified the 17-year-old from Alexandria as the suspect “based on witness accounts and other investigative leads.” The teen was arrested this morning by the Fairfax County Police Department’s Fugitive Tracking and Apprehension Unit.

Now in custody at the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center, the Alexandria resident has been charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, reckless discharge of a firearm and underage possession of a firearm.

“If you have any information about this incident, please reach out to Herndon PD at 703-435-6846,” the HPD said.
