Langley cross-country runners place at Southeast Regional meet

With a seventh-place finish, sophomore Gavin Silva helped the Langley Saxons place eighth in the boys team standings at a big regional cross-country meet in North Carolina.

Silva’s time was 16:18 in the rising stars race on the 5,000-meter WakeMed Soccer Complex course in Cary, N.C., Nov. 23 at the Nike Southeast Regional high-school meet.

Also in the boys rising-stars race for Langley, sophomore Henry Ahn was 51st (17:00), sophomore Christopher Obadal 69th (17:15), sophomore Benjamin Mills 79th (17:29) and freshman Brady Blackburn 195th (19:02).

In the open boys 5K race, Langley senior Zain Rasheed was 184th (16:45) and senior Alden Raoufinia 227th (16:53).

At the local 6D North Region cross-country meet in Northern Virginia earlier in November, Silva, Ahn and Rasheed helped the Saxons place fifth in the team standings.

For Langley girls cross-country runners at the Nike meet in North Carolina, senior Hazel Calway finished 122nd (19:09) and her freshman teammate Adeline Middleton was 169th (19:41) in the main 5K race.

The two helped Langley win the 6D North Region meet in Northern Virginia earlier in November.
