A Herndon-based cybersecurity company is planning to ramp up its local operations.

Buoyed by recent Department of Defense contracts, AttainX will invest $175,000 and create 32 new jobs to expand its operations in Fairfax County, Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced today (Wednesday).

The company decided to bolster its headquarters in the Hallmark Building (13873 Park Center Road) just east of the county’s border near Dulles International Airport to take advantage of “the region’s proximity to federal customers and its robust technology ecosystem,” the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority said in a press release.

“As a woman-owned federal contractor, AttainX exemplifies how Virginia’s proximity to federal customers and robust talent pipeline create opportunities for innovative companies to grow and succeed,” Youngkin said. “Their success strengthens the Commonwealth’s position as a leader in cybersecurity and IT services.”

Founded in 2008, AttainX provides cybersecurity, information technology, artificial intelligence and business operations services to the military and civilian federal agencies.

According to Youngkin’s office, Fairfax County worked with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership to keep AttainX in Virginia. The company’s plan to add positions will be supported by the Virginia Jobs Investment Program, which provides consulting services and funding to help companies recruit and train workers.

“We are incredibly grateful for this award, which highlights the dedication of our talented team,” AttainX President and CEO Sheryll Manoj said. “With this support, we’re poised to attract and employ talent in Fairfax County, contributing to the economic and technological growth of Virginia.”

The importance of the federal government to Northern Virginia’s economy — both as a major employer itself and as a draw for private contractors like AttainX — has been a top concern for local leaders, with president-elect Donald Trump advocating for drastic cutbacks in the federal workforce.

The Social Security Administration has reportedly reached an agreement with a union representing 42,000 of its employees that would allow remote work until 2029, providing a safeguard against the incoming administration’s pledges to require all federal workers to return to the office.

In its package of legislative priorities for the next session of Congress, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors indicated that it will oppose significant reductions in the federal workforce and mass relocations outside the D.C. area. At the same time, the board will support federal agencies like the FBI moving to the county.

From Youngkin’s press release, Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff McKay and state legislators representing the Oak Hill area where AttainX is located celebrated the news of its expansion:

“I want to congratulate AttainX for your continued success and thank you for being an integral part of our growing ecosystem of more than 10,000 technology companies that call Fairfax County home,” said Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeffrey C. McKay. “Your expertise provides undeniable value to your federal customers while having a far-reaching impact as you help protect our way of life.”

“I am excited that AttainX and VEDP are partnering to bring these significant investments and jobs to the 36th Senate District,” said Senator Stella Pekarsky. “VEDP provides important support for women-owned small businesses in Virginia. I am pleased to expand the hub in Fairfax County for private sector support for our federal agencies and military. Partnerships like these will continue to support hard-working Virginia families and bring needed investments into our community.”

“It is always exciting to see our local small businesses thrive. AttainX has been creating jobs and doing great work for over 15 years — advancing our region’s reputation as a leading tech hub of the East Coast,” said Delegate Irene Shin. “I love seeing women leaders and entrepreneurs in our community succeed. Congratulations to the AttainX team!”
