A standout high-school field-hockey career ended recently when Potomac School senior Bella Kim played her final match.
Kim finished as the Potomac School’s all-time leading goal scorer in the girls high-school sport with 74 goals, including a single-season program best this fall with 25.
“Bella had another great year,” Potomac School coach Barb Mays said.
Kim also had seven assists this season. She finished her high-school career with 35 assists, ranking second most on the team’s list in that statistical category.
As a shooter, Kim was known for having one of the hardest shots, forehand or backhand, of any player. Mays said that when Kim took one of those hard shots close to the goal, it typically was unstoppable.
For her efforts this season, Kim was a first-team Division I all-state selection. She also was chosen to the first team of the Independent School League, and helped Potomac School earn a state-tournament berth.
Following the post-season tournaments, Kim played in an ISL all-star game along with two teammates. By scoring a goal and having an assist in the match, Kim was chosen the most Outstanding Player of her team, ending her high-school career with one last standout performance.
An interesting note about the match was Kim’s name was left off the roster, so she inadvertently was not introduced during the pregame ceremony.
“She doesn’t let stuff like that bother her. She’s just a great young person who is always willing to help with clinics and camps. Can’t say enough about her,” Mays said.
Kim will continue playing field hockey next fall for the women’s team at Amherst College in Massachusetts. During the upcoming spring season at Potomac School, she will be a member of the girls lacrosse team.
