Fairfax County police believe a man killed in a car crash on Georgetown Pike this weekend may have been speeding.
Officers were called to the 8600 block of Georgetown Pike in Great Falls at 6:54 a.m. on Saturday (Dec. 14) after Ederson Lima Gislon, 40, of Maryland veered off the roadway in a 2024 BMW M8 and hit a tree, the Fairfax County Police Department said yesterday.
Gislon died at the scene, police said. A preliminary investigation found that Gislon was heading west on Georgetown Pike at the time of the crash.
“Detectives believe that speed played a role in the crash,” the FCPD said.
Gislon appears to be the 47th person to be killed in a traffic crash on Fairfax County this year, though the crash hasn’t been added yet to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles’ online database.
Georgetown Pike has now been the site of two fatal crashes in 2024, both of them involving a solo driver who police say was speeding and crashed into a tree.
Osman Elgamri, a 22-year-old man from Sterling, died on May 9 after crashing near the Great Falls Church of Christ. According to the FCPD, detectives determined that speed was “a factor in the crash,” but the possible involvement of alcohol or drugs was still being investigated at the time.
Officers are on scene of a single vehicle crash at Georgetown Pike and Towlston Road in Great Falls. The driver, an adult man, was declared deceased on scene.
