This year’s boys basketball Lake Braddock Holiday Tournament will include eight public high-school varsity teams.
The competition is set to run Dec. 26-28 at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke. There are four games each day, at 2:15 p.m., 4 p.m., 5:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. All teams will play three games, one per day.
The holiday tourney is one of the longest-running in Northern Virginia, along with Wakefield High School’s George Long Holiday Tournament.
The first-day pairings start with the Battlefield Bobcats of Prince William County playing the Oakton Cougars at 2:15 p.m. The Atlee Raiders near Richmond face the Woodgrove Wolverines of Purcellville at 4 p.m. The Lightridge Bolts of Aldie play the Jefferson Cougars of West Virginia at 5:45 p.m., followed by the 7:30 p.m. nightcap with the host Lake Braddock Bruins playing the Heritage Pride of Leesburg.
Oakton and Lake Braddock met earlier in the season, with Oakton winning a close game. The teams would not meet in the tournament until the title contest or consolation game.
The championship game is scheduled for Dec. 28 at 7:30 p.m.
Only two teams, Lake Braddock and Woodgrove, return from last year’s tournament that was won by the Flint Hill Huskies private-school team from Oakton. Flint Hill this year will be playing in a holiday tournament in North Carolina.
