Senior field-hockey players participate in one final salute

The third Senior Salute girls field-hockey tournament was held recently at Meridian High School in Falls Church.

The all-star event consisted of three games and included 48 of the top 6D and 6C North Region senior public-school players in Northern Virginia. Each player participated in two matches.

The Salute provided an annual opportunity for the seniors to wear their high-school team uniforms one last time in competition.

“The weather was great, and with the exception of a few injured players, everyone participated that was nominated,” event director and Marshall High School head field hockey coach Christina Carroll said.

Players from Team A were Kelsey Dolan (defender Westfield High School), Julia Allendoerfer (defender, West Springfield), Teju Charagundla (defender, Jefferson), Aubrey Counts (defender, Madison), Anna Pemberton (defender, Annandale), Kelly McIntyre (forward, Washington-Liberty), Sara Norford (forward, South Lakes), Delaney Flanagan (forward, Meridian), Riley Sweeney (forward, Oakton), Ripley Hotaling (forward, Annandale), Riley Clouse (midfielder, Washington-Liberty), Wesli Abell (midfielder, Hayfield), Sylvia Hieber (midfield, Fairfax), Katie Kolovos (midfielder, Mount Vernon), Shannon Heiner (midfielder, Edison), Laney Reiser (midfielder, Yorktown) and Georg Harsh (goalie, Westfield).

Oakton’s Erin Keenan and Cassie Brazinsky coached the team.

Players for Team B were Mary Shaw Walsh (defender, West Potomac), Ann Roberts (defender, South Lakes), Saanvi Indukuri (defender, Jefferson), Bailey Zimmerman (defender, Oakton), Sophia Vekony (defender, Wakefield), Leela Brennig (forward, West Springfield), Sophie Hauber (forward, Marshall), Avery DeKoven (forward, Oakton), Claire Casto (forward, Madison), Trinity Serrano (forward, Centreville), Allison McCabe (midfielder, Lake Braddock), Aziza Lutfi (midfielder, Hayfield), Maisey Carr (midfielder, Herndon), Astrid Maslin (midfielder, Woodson), Paulina Bruno Wentzel (midfielder, Lake Braddock) and Abigail Meehan (goalie, Robinson).

The coaches were Lindsay Arnsmeyer of Robinson and Carrie Holman of Madison.

Players for Team C were Ellie Nicolaides (defender, Langley), Molly Kindelan (defender, Marshall), Lyla Harrison (defender, Robinson), Brogan Collins (defender, Fairfax), Kelby Lennen (defender, Woodson), Mia Salvo (defender, Marshall), Sarah Sciortino (forward, Herndon), Dalayna Carr (forward, Langley), Lilly Kate Groves (forward, Madison), Emma Cumming Sulmistras (forward, Woodson), Gia Khan (midfielder, Meridian), Emma Torres (midfielder, Mount Vernon), Regan Hemphill (midfielder, Centreville), Ava Vekony (midfielder, Wakefield) and Hailey Sarno (midfielder, Robinson).

Ginger White of Edison and Carroll of Marshall were the coaches.

The volunteer umpires were Lizzi McManus, Michael Clark and Ann Repczynski. Marshall’s Jordyn Brown was the volunteer trainer.
