On a turnaround 12-foot jump shot in the middle of the lane, Anya Rahman scored her 1,000th career point for the Langley Saxons girls basketball team in a recent high-school game.
The basket came with 2:39 left in the second quarter against the Bishop O’Connell Knights on Langley’s home court, giving the Saxons a 20-9 lead.
The game was stopped for a few moments and a picture was taken of Rahman’s milestone.
Rahman scored 18 points in Langley’s eventual victory. She made four three-pointers in the contest to go with three rebounds.
Through nine games this season, Rahman averages 15.2 points per contest, and is Langley’s scoring leader. She has scored 137 points and has made 19 three-pointers for the 7-2 Saxons, winners of five straight games since a 44-41 loss to the Madison Warhawks.
For her four-year varsity career, Rahman has scored 1,062 career points. She has committed to play at Division III Carnegie Mellon University.
One of Langley’s five straight wins was a 39-23 non-district victory against the defending 6C North Region champion Robinson Rams. Freshmen Mariah Armah and Alice Allen each scored 13 points in that win, and Rahman had eight.
Langley also has a 2-0 Liberty District record, with blowout wins over the Herndon Hornets and Wakefield Warriors.
