Local youth soccer players Y-Lan Nguyen from Fairfax and Otu Bisong of Herndon recently were named National Youth Girls and Youth Boys Players of the Year by the United Soccer Coaches.
The players earned the honors as a result of their strong play and production in youth soccer with their Virginia Development Academy (VDA) club teams. Bisong plays for a Herndon team and Nguyen for a squad in Woodbridge.
The VDA is a youth soccer club based in Prince William County. Players from throughout Northern Virginia jurisdictions participate.
Nguyen has committed to play college soccer for the women’s team at Stanford University. Bisong will play for the Old Dominion University men’s team.

Bisong played for the Herndon High School boys soccer team last spring, and Nguyen has been a member of the Fairfax High School girls squad.
In addition to Nguyen and Bison, a number of other VDA area players from Fairfax County have been named Youth Club All-Americans by the United Soccer Coaches. They are Anna Chau, Audrey McKeen and Daphne Van Der Weide, a product of Vienna Youth Soccer. McKeen from Vienna is a standout for the Bishop O’Connell High School girls soccer team.
Other Virginians and VDA players chosen All-Americans outside of the Fairfax area are Maya Engel, Allie Flanagan and Taylor Morrell from Loudoun County; Luis Fuentes, Ary Oliver and Luis Ibanez from Woodbridge; Jolie Jenkins from Stepenson; and Kyndal Shuler of Warrenton.
United Soccer Coaches is described as the largest coaching organization in the world.
