A man was shot in Lake Barcroft yesterday (Wednesday) while allegedly attempting to break into a home.

The homeowner called 911 around 2:27 a.m. to report a “suspicious” man who was reportedly trying to force his way into the house in the 6400 block of Oakwood Drive, the Fairfax County Police Department said in a press release.

While still on the phone with 911, the homeowner fired a gun at the man, according to the police.

“Officers located the man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and began performing life-saving measures,” the FCPD said.

The shot man was transported to a hospital with injuries described as life-threatening. No residents in the home were injured.

According to police, detectives found during a preliminary investigation that the man who got shot had previously assaulted someone at a different, nearby residence.

“The victim of the assault suffered non-life-threatening injuries,” the FCPD said. “Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
