The initial girls and boys Division I private-school state basketball rankings of the 2024-25 high-school season includes a number of teams from Northern Virginia.
In the girls poll, the Potomac School Panthers of McLean are ranked fifth. The Panthers finished second in the Division I state tournament last season, losing to St. Paul VI Catholic in the title game.
Paul VI of Loudoun County (and formerly Fairfax) is ranked second in the first poll, behind the Bishop Ireton Cardinals of Alexandria.
The Flint Hill Huskies of Oakton are ranked seventh, one spot behind the Bishop O’Connell Knights of Arlington. Paul VI recently defeated O’Connell in regular-season action. Episcopal of Alexandria is ranked 13th in the girls poll.
The Oakcrest team from Vienna was not ranked in the initial poll but did receive votes.
In the initial Division I boys poll, Flint Hill was ranked 11th and Potomac School 14th. Paul VI was ranked No. 2, O’Connell No. 3, Bishop Ireton No. 5, St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes of Alexandria No. 7 and Episcopal No. 9.
The Blue Ridge School of St. George in the Shenandoah Valley is ranked No. 1.
Many of the girls and boys team from Northern Virginia ranked in those polls have or will meet during the regular season.
At the end of the regular season, top 12-ranked teams in each poll participate in the Division I state tournaments.
