Two key district showdowns for first ahead in boys basketball

A couple of key boys basketball games are on tap in coming days involving first-place teams in the Concorde and Patriot districts.

In the Concorde, the South Lakes Seahawks (9-2) and Westfield Bulldogs (10-4) are tied for first with 3-0 records. The high-school squads are set to play Friday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Reston at South Lakes.

South Lakes defeated the Centreville Wildcats, 80-34, and Oakton Cougars, 58-46, in recent district action. Westfield topped the Madison Warhawks, 54-45, and Centreville, 67-61, in their recent league action.

Madison is 0-3 in the district and Chantilly 1-2, with a 63-51 over the Warhawks.

In the Patriot District, the Woodson Cavaliers (11-2) are alone in first place with a 5-0 record. The South County Stallions (10-3) are second at 6-1. The teams are scheduled to play Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at South County.

Woodson’s recent district wins were over the Lake Braddock Bruins, 74-58, the West Springfield Spartans, 73-45, and the Fairfax Lions, 47-35.

South County’s one district loss was to the Alexandria City Titans, 73-68, snapping a six-game winning streak.

Recent district victories for South County were over Fairfax, 39-36, and the Robinson Rams, 59-51.

Robinson is 10-4 overall and 3-3 in the league, with a recent 62-49 triumph over Alexandria City (2-11, 1-5).

The West Potomac Wolverines are 3-3 in the district, Lake Braddock and West Springfield are 2-3 and Fairfax 1-4.
