Two teenagers are facing criminal charges after they were found with guns and drugs in a vehicle that had been reported stolen, Fairfax County police say.
Officers were called to the Fair Oaks Mall parking lot near Macy’s at approximately 4:44 p.m. last Thursday, Jan. 16 after a woman reported that her 2013 Hyundai sedan had been stolen, the Fairfax County Police Department said in a news release.
According to the police scanner, the woman told 911 that her ex-boyfriend “possibly” took the vehicle, but he was no longer at the scene.
“Detectives from our Auto Crimes Enforcement (ACE) Unit responded to assist with the investigation,” the FCPD said.
Later that day, police received an alert notifying them that the stolen vehicle was located in the 6000 block of Freds Oak Road in Burke. Upon arriving, officers found two men, who were promptly arrested, and recovered narcotics and two guns from inside the sedan.
One of the suspects, an 18-year-old from Chantilly, has been charged with property destruction, carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place where guns are prohibited, and possession of Schedule IV narcotics — a class of drugs that includes depressants.
Released on recognizance, the 18-year-old man will face an adjudicatory hearing in Fairfax County General District Court on March 28.
Police also arrested a 19-year-old man from Fairfax and charged him with carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in a prohibited public place and possession of a machine gun. According to court records, he remains in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on a $20,000 bond with a preliminary hearing scheduled for 2 p.m. on April 23.
