With a winner of two individual races leading the way, the Oakcrest Chargers enjoyed a strong performance at the Northern Virginia Catholic Swimming and Diving Championships.
Oakcrest placed sixth in the girls private high-school meet in Manassas.
The Vienna-Reston school was led by junior Elizabeth Bryan. She won the girls 100 freestyle in 53.07 seconds, the 200 free in 1:55.57 and she swam on relays that placed fifth (400 free) and seventh (200 free).
Oakcrest had some other top finishers at the Saturday (Jan. 18) meet that was won by the Bishop O’Connell Knights of Arlington.
Oakcrest sophomore diver Sophie Bourdelais finished sixth and fellow sophomore Mary Abela was eighth in diving. Sophomore Lindsey Hazelwood finished eighth in the 500 free and freshman Ema Cinott was ninth in the 200 individual medley.
Others who had top 20 finishes for Oakcrest were juniors Katelyn Erickson, Maddie McDonnell and Amelia Magee; sophomores Adele Schneider, Juliet Van Meter, Michaela Teh and Charlotte Heinricks; and freshman Brigita Eschmann.
At the previous National Catholic swimming and diving meet a week earlier, Bryan won the 100 breaststroke (1:03.64) and was second in the IM.
Oakcrest place 11th in the team standings at that meet.
NOTE: During the 2024 Northern Virginia Swimming League summer season, Bryan helped the Ilda Community pool of Annandale tie for first place in Division 17. She was a winner of all 10 of her individual races of various strokes at the girls 15-18 age group during the five-week regular season. She then won the IM and butterfly races in the 15-18 category at the five-team divisional championships.
