With a combined 20 victories, the Flint Hill Huskies and Potomac School Panthers are enjoying winning girls basketball seasons.
Each high-school team had 10 wins when the week began, including six straight wins by the Panthers (10-6) and two in a row by the Huskies (10-5).
The neighborhood high-school rivals were both ranked in the initial Division I private-school state poll for the 2024-25 campaign. Potomac School was ranked fifth and Flint Hill seventh.
The squads each play in the Independent School League, but in different divisions. The Panthers of McLean were in second-place in the upper AA Division with a 4-1 mark when the week began.
Flint Hill of Oakton was tied for first in the loss column (4-0) in the lower A Division.
In its most recent victory, host Potomac School defeated AA Division opponent Maret, 54-50. Sabrina Eldredge led the Panthers in scoring in that win with 14 points to go with four rebounds.
Ava Sewall scored 12 and had four assists, Catherine Letendre had eight points and 10 rebounds and Sabrina Anderson scored six and had three assists.
Maret fell to 3-2 in the standings.
Sidwell Friends was in first place at 3-0. Potomac School’s one AA Division loss was to Sidwell.
Flint Hill defeated St. John Paul the Great, 62-49, and National Cathedral, 39-22, for its two-game winning streak when the week began.
The Huskies are led by career 1,000-point scorer Raigan McCalla. The senior began the 2024-25 season with 1,228 career points.
Other starters for Flint Hill have been seniors Tatum Carney and Lilian Mahdi, junior Lynette Doku and sophomore Ashley Giuliani.
Flint Hill is scheduled to host Potomac School on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 3:30 p.m. in a non-division clash. The meeting is the only one between the teams this season.
Potomac School defeated Flint Hill twice last winter, when both played in the AA Division.
The Panthers have lost five straight times to Flint Hill, last defeating the Huskies in the 2019-20 season.
