Lake Braddock wrestlers finish second at Highlander Duals

With two wrestlers finishing 5-0 and four 4-1, the Lake Braddock Bruins finished second at the 10-team Highlander Duals competition at McLean High School.

The Battlefield Bobcats of Prince William County finished first with a 5-0 record at the 10-team Saturday (Jan. 18) event. Lake Braddock was second with a 4-1 record, losing to the Bobcats, 57-18.

Other Fairfax County high-school teams participating were the fourth-place Hayfield Hawks (3-2), fifth-place McLean Highlanders (3-2), seventh-place Madison Warhawks (2-3) and eighth-place Westfield Bulldogs (1-4).

The two 5-0 Lake Braddock wrestlers were Ethan Bluesteen at 138 pounds and Matthew Dani at 175. Bluesteen had three pins, a technical fall and a forfeit for his victories. Dani had three pins and two forfeits.

Finishing 4-1 were Conner Rafferty (113), Camryn Miketta (150), Bradley Cherry (157) and Josiah Bolme (285). Rafferty had two pins, Miketta and Cherry four each, and Bolme three.

Lake Braddock grapplers with 3-2 records were William Eastin (126), Dylan Abeyta (132), Jack Podsednik (165) and Mason Bell (215). Charles Rubino (106) and Liam Edminster (144) each won two matches. With a victory each were John Dempsey (120) and Ian Kown (190).

Five of the top wrestlers for Hayfield were Cristian Rojas at 106, Brendan Maglathlin at 120, Danneil Marshall at 132, Anthony Gomez at 157 and Ethan Osburn at 190. Rojas was 4-1 with four pins, Gomez was 4-1 and Maglathlin, Marshall and Osburn were 5-0. Osburn had five pins.

McLean’s Nathaniel Thaler was 5-0 with three pins at 165. Sarah Romero at 106/113, Tavian Melvin (120) and Jasper Williams (144) were all 4-1. Also for McLean, Spencer May-Stoffel was 3-1 at 285 and Jacob Lee was 2-0 at 190.

For Madison, Conrad Krauskopf was 5-0 at 157/165, as was Aidan Martinez at 126, and Luke Salvosa was 4-1 with four pins at 190.

For Westfield, Ian Gleasman was 5-0 with five pins at 144 and 150, Hyun Sin was 4-1 at 175, Joe Regalbuto went 3-1 at 150 and 157, as did Kenny Padilla at 157 and 165.

Mount Vernon High’s Fainde Nhantumbo (138) and Jayden Rivera (144) each were 3-0.
