Led by two first-place relays, the Madeira Snails finished third in the swimming and diving team’s recent conference-championship meet.
The girls high-school team won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays at the Independent School League conference meet at Stone Ridge School in D.C. The 200 relay won in 1:37.1 and the 400 in 3:34.71.
The Snails did not have an individual winner, but Sunny Chen was second in the 100 butterfly and fourth in the 200 free. She also swam on the two winning relays.
Others on those relays were Kylee Smith, Kayla Smith, Lydia Foster and Coleen Desmond.
Madeira’s Diya Redburn was second in the 100 backstroke and 11th in the 200 individual medley. Kayla Smith was fourth in the 50 free and 10th in the 100 free.
Kylee Smith was sixth in the 50 free and 10th in the fly. Foster placed seventh in the 50 and 100 free races, and Desmond was seventh in the breast and ninth in the 100 free.
Other top-15 finishers for Madeira were Claire Fioravanti (seventh, 500 free), Katie Chen (ninth, breast), Lauren Shepard (11th, back) and Addison Griest (12th, back). Madeira’s medley relay placed fourth.
The Potomac School Panthers girls finished fourth in the meet. They were led by Kate Douglas, with a win in the back (56.61) and a second in the 50 free.
The Panthers’ Maren Schwarz was second in the breast and fifth in the IM, Cecelia Russell was third in the fly and fifth in the 200 free, Madeleine Steves was fourth in the breast and seventh in the IM, Logan Abbott was 11th in the fly and 500 free, and Ella Gray was 13th in the back.
Potomac School’s medley relay was second, the 400 free fifth and the 200 free sixth.
