Reston Town Center will embrace the season this weekend with a new wintry event.

Ice-travaganza” will bring ice sculptures with live carving demonstrations, free hot chocolate, a live DJ, an ice skating performance and other winter-themed activities to the town center’s Mercury Fountain plaza and pavilion at 11900 Market Street on Saturday, Jan. 25.

For the event, Reston Town Center owner BXP is teaming up with the local pub Makers Union (1811 Library Street) and The Ice God, a Baltimore-based company that makes custom ice sculptures, luges and other icy displays.

“Collaborating with cities across the Mid-Atlantic, The Ice God is delivering ice festivals that never fail to draw a crowd, combining dazzling ice artistry and winter attractions that captivate attendees of all ages,” The Ice God said in a press release.

Ice-travaganza will last from noon to 3 p.m., with the ice carving demonstration starting at 12:30 p.m. and continuing until 2 p.m. The ice skating performance is scheduled for 1:15 p.m., according to Sapna Yathiraj, marketing director for Reston Town Center owner BXP.

The hot chocolate will be offered while supplies last. Games and other entertainment are also planned, according to a memo sent to Fairfax County’s zoning department. The county issued a permit for the special event on Dec. 26.

During Ice-travaganza, Market Street will be closed between Presidents Street and Library Street. Garage parking at Reston Town Center is free on weekends, though street parking on Saturdays costs $3 per hour with a maximum of two hours allowed.

Outside of the upcoming event, Reston Town Center continues to host public ice skating sessions and private rentals at its pavilion, which has been converted into a rink. Operating hours are generally 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and on Sundays, and from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
