Fairfax County police arrested a man earlier this week who allegedly pointed a gun at another person while at the county’s homeless shelter in Bailey’s Crossroads.

Officers were dispatched to the Bailey’s Shelter and Supportive Housing in the 5900 block of Seminary Road at approximately 7:56 p.m. on Wednesday (Jan. 22) for a reported weapons violation, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

“The victim reported that a man pointed a firearm at him,” the FCPD said in a press release today (Friday). “The victim was not injured.”

The FCPD says a search of the area led officers to a 26-year-old man with no fixed address, who matched the description that the victim provided and had a “loaded Taurus pistol” on hand.

According to police, the man was convicted of a felony in the past, though the department says it doesn’t have any information on where the crime and conviction occurred. A search of Fairfax County’s circuit and general district court online databases didn’t turn up any prior records.

Arrested on Wednesday, the man has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a weapon on county property, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen credit card.

Held in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center after an arraignment yesterday (Thursday), the man is scheduled to next appear in court for a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. on April 30.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted to prohibit guns on county property in September 2020, a move that covered all county government buildings, parks, recreation and community centers. The Fairfax County School Board later adopted a policy of its own in 2022 that designated school-owned and leased properties as gun-free zones.

Operated by New Hope Housing, the Bailey’s Shelter and Supportive Housing opened in 2019 at 5914 Seminary Road with emergency beds for 52 single adults experiencing homelessness and 18 permanent supportive housing units. It replaced an existing Bailey’s Crossroads shelter at 3525 Moncure Avenue.
