
Overall depth, including victories in two relays and three in individual races, and many more top-five finishes helped the Flint Hill Huskies win their second straight swimming and diving league championship.
The Oakton private school’s boys high school team won the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference private-school title on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Catholic University with 162.5 team points. The Huskies’ neighborhood rival Potomac School Panthers were second with 127.
“Depth was a big part of it but we also had swimmers who were willing to do whatever it took to repeat as champion,” Flint Hill coach Ashley DeWolf said. “Our team really came together, we had some super key swim and some had some crazy personal best times.”
Leading Flint Hill individually would double race winner Lucas Bermudez in the 100 freestyle (49.5 seconds) and 100 backstroke (56.32). He also swam on the winning 200 medley (1:41.91) and 200 free (1:32.95) relays.
The Huskies’ other race winner was Todd Landwehr in the 50 free (22.39). He also was a member of each winning relay and placed third in the 100 free.
Flint Hill’s Keagan Murdock was second in the back and third in the 500 free. Kai Lindros was second in the 200 free and fourth in the back. Beckett Cummins was third in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 200 individual medley.
Also, Nate Jurutka placed third in the 200 free and fifth in the 100 free, Blake Nguyen was fourth in the 100 butterfly and fifth in the 500 free, Zachary Tan was fourth in the breast and sixth in the IM, Thomas Carstater was fourth in the 50 free and sixth in the breast, Bradley Zhao was fifth in the IM and fly, Wesley Zhao was fifth in the 200 free and sixth in the fly and Dylan Riihimaki was seventh in the 50 free.
Flint Hill diver Cian Gallagher was third.
Lindros, Tan and Carstater also swam on the winning relays. The Huskies’ 400 free relay was sixth.
Leading Potomac School was double winners Henry Rossman in the IM (1:59.23) and 500 free (4:43.22) and Luka Beslic in the fly (52.35) and breast (59.28). Jasper Majeed-Hall won the 200 free (1:56.01) and was fourth in the 100 free.
Gus Tierney was second in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 free. Aden Travers was fourth in the 200 and 500 free, Erim Ozcan sixth in the 50 free and seventh in the fly, Michael Steves seventh in the IM and back, Sahil Sardar had two top-10 finishes, Will Priester was 10th in the IM and Nicholas Derisca 10th in the 200 free.
Potomac School diver Jack Pinkus was second.
The Panthers won the 400 free relay in 3:27.79 with Rossman, Travers, Majeed-Hall and Beslic making up the team. The medley and 200 free relays were second.
