An entertaining individual shootout occurred involving three top scoring leaders when neighborhood rivals met on Saturday, Jan. 25 in a girls’ high-school basketball game.

The Potomac School Panthers defeated the host Flint Hill Huskies, 73-53, for their second straight win in that Independent School League private-school clash. The loss snapped the Huskies’ four-game victory string, as Flint Hill stands 12-6.

The conference’s three scoring leaders all amassed more than 20 points.

Flint Hill senior guard/forward Raigan McCalla scored the most with 29 points (including two three-pointers) to go with 10 rebounds. She scored 18 of those points in the second quarter.

For Potomac School (12-7), sophomore guard Sabrina Anderson made four threes and scored 26 and senior forward Catherine Letendre scored 23 and had seven rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Anderson and McCalla each scored 20 points in the first half.

Panthers’ junior guard Ava Sewall also got into the scoring act, making four threes and having 16 points with four steals and two assists.

McCalla and Letendre already are 1,000-point scorers in their high-school careers and Anderson could soon reach that milestone.

Also for Potomac School in the win, Lauren Hillard had four points and three rebounds, Sabrina Eldredge scored four and Julia Jackson had a point, two steals and two assists.

Top Potomac School senior players Zora Burrell and Marget Crittenberger missed the game with leg injuries.

Flint Hill’s Lynette Doku had 11 points and eight rebounds; Tatum Carney had eight points, six rebounds and three steals; Ashley Giuliani and Liliana Mahdi scored baskets; with Erin Doran making a foul shot.

Potomac School took control early in the win, building a 7-0 lead and was ahead 21-6 at the end of the first quarter and 47-30 at halftime.

Potomac School’s victory over Flint Hill was its sixth in a row. The Huskies last defeated the Panthers in the opening game of the 2019-20 season. The teams play just once this season.
