BREAKING: Pedestrians injured in hit-and-run on Richmond Highway

A woman and a child were critically injured in a crash this evening (Wednesday) on Richmond Highway in Mount Vernon, police say.

According to scanner traffic, officers and emergency medical responders were dispatched to Richmond Highway (Route 1) at Mount Vernon Highway around 8:35 p.m. for the crash, which was described by police as a hit-and-run.

Responders reported that two pedestrians, including a juvenile, had been struck in the northbound lanes of Route 1.

“An adult woman and child were transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition,” the Fairfax County Police Department tweeted at 9:19 p.m. “The driver of the striking vehicle fled the scene.”

Richmond Highway is currently closed at Buckman Road.

“Please seek an alternate route,” the FCPD said. “Call 911 with info.”
